I don't typically post about non-baseball topics but I really loved this story and thought I would push it out there.
This little girl, 6 years old, is diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia. She is undergoing chemotherapy which, from what I gather, is saving her life.
This little girl's family has insurance but the cost is really adding up. She set up the lemonade stand to help her parents cover the cost. I think what really stood out to me, was the attitude of this little girl. She is so positive and cheerful, she reminds me of my son, maybe that is why it touched me so much.
I found this article that has an address to a fund that is set up for her. I am going to try to send something, and thought that maybe I can pass along this story.

*I wish the rest of the world could have this girl's attitude. So innocent and beautiful.*

I got it
Unlike poor Mr. "Wicked" Ortega, I have had a good week on EBay. I have another card coming, look for that post later, but the card I am showing now I have been wanting for at least a year. It also brings me one card closer to completing one of my 2010 goals.
Mark Reynolds 2007 Bowman's Best Autograph #76b
Mark Reynolds 2007 Bowman's Best Autograph #76bI wasn't going to buy this card. I was following the auction of this card, and the card ended with no bids. I sent the seller a message and ask if he would take $20 for it. He accepted. I thought for sure he wouldn't, but luck was on my side.
I love this card. This, and the Justin Upton one as well. A rookie auto of Reynolds, and from a really nice set. The scan doesn't do the card justice, you can't really see how "shiny", and thick the card is.

Sending cards 2010 Week 2

Andre Ethier
I am not a fan of Ethier, so I feel funny about sending this. I don't dislike Andre, but in baseball terms I am not a Dodger fan, and Mr. Ethier does really well for them. It is nothing personal, he actually seems like a really good guy. I am probably going to send a lot more Dodger attempts soon, they are really close and the quick success from Garret Anderson make it very appealing.
After seeing this success from the Cardboard Legends blog, I feel like Mr Barton would be a good attempt to send out.
Mr. Cust was drafted by the Diamondbacks in 1997, and made his Major League debut with the Arizona in 2001. I look forward to adding this Diamondback signature to my collection.
When I was writing my letters, I looked over and noticed a pack of 2008 Ginters that I had recently bought. I decided to send one of the cards out in this batch. Mr. Clement was the card that got a free trip out of town.
I am a little worried about this attempt. After searching TTM message boards, and blogs I can not find one success for the Troll rookie card. I rubbed bacon on the envelope, I felt that it may help my chances.
Wicked Ortega, also has no successes recorded for TTM attempts. I have a feeling about this one though, I will get this one back.

Sending Cards (Change of address)
Dan Haren moved from my favorite team, the Diamondbacks, to my home town (second favorite) team, the Angels. I figure that I would try to drop him a line again, and hope that the second time is the charm. The last time was earlier this year in spring training, so there is a good chance that this letter may be at a better time. I am also sending his National Chicle card as well.
Granted it is not the best looking of the Chicle cards, but this Haren card won out over all the others. Not ever sure why. With my luck he will sign the Chicle card and not the Ginter.

Blog Update
I added links on the checklist located at the bottom of the blog. The names of the signed cards now link to an image of the auto. If anyone has a suggestion of how to make the blog navigate better drop me a line, or comment.

The Ninth TTM Success this Year

New Ginter Auto

This time I picked one up on E-Bay instead of TTM. I prefer TTM, or in person (if that ever happens) it feels more personal when you know the card was signed for you. I also don't like the idea of feeding the guys that hound athletes just to sell the auto on E-Bay.
That being said. I maybe getting more this way, simply because the volume of athletes I would need to sign for us to complete this set will not be met TTM feasibly.
Sorry for not reaching out to you Mr. Thompson.
